T B AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT SIKKIM GOVT. B.ED. COLLEGE, SORENG

Sikkim Govt. B.Ed. College, Soreng,organized, an impactful awareness programme on Tuberculosis on the theme “TB Harega Desh Jeetega.” Under the banner of NSS Cell in collaboration with Stars of Hope, India. The event aimed to educate students and the community about tuberculosis (TB), its prevention, and the role of collective efforts in eradicating the disease.

The programme began at 11:00 AM with the arrival of guests, coordinated by the Organizing Committee. This was followed by the inauguration and lighting of the lamp by the Principal and Chief Guest, marking the formal commencement of the event. Anup Chettri delivered a warm and enthusiastic welcome speech, setting the tone for the day.

The highlight of the programme was a session titled “Tuberculosis: Understanding the Disease Inside Out” by Dr. Nirmal Gurung, Deputy State TB Officer, State TB Cell, Sikkim. Dr. Gurung explained the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive measures related to TB in a very informative manner.

Next, the trainees presented a skit/role play on TB awareness, effectively conveying the message through drama and storytelling. The audience appreciated their performance and its strong social message.

The session on “Tuberculosis and the Community” by Mr. Bikash Thapa, Founder and Chairman of Stars of Hope India, focused on the importance of community support, social awareness, and reducing stigma surrounding TB.

An Open House Quiz conducted by the Stars of Hope members saw active participation from the students and was both educational and engaging. It helped reinforce key takeaways from the event.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and a thank you speech by Uma Pati Bhandari, appreciating the efforts of all participants and guests. The session was efficiently hosted by MC Ayush Pradhan, and overall coordination was managed by NSS PO Budha Hang Subba and NSS PC Dr. Tashi Ongmu Bhutia.
